Mn Services Overview:
Steelhead Fishing: Fall Steelheads usually start making their appearance on the Big Manistee River around mid-September, with activities increasing as autumn progresses. In early seasons, we use bottom bouncing techniques with fly rods and spinning gear or swinging wet flies with spey and switch rods, taking advantage of their high energy level. As fall advances and water temperatures cool down, we transition to centerpin float fishing, float fishing with fly rods, bobber fishing, and spin fishing with fly rods.
Salmon Fishing: King Salmon begin arriving on the Big Manistee around mid-August, featuring shiny scales, aggressive behaviors, and high hunting skills. In the initial stage, we focus on early morning or late evening sessions for better results. As fall approaches, days get shorter; therefore, fishing from dawn until afternoon becomes more suitable due to increased numbers of salmon.
Trout Fishing: Brown Trout season starts at the of our steelhead season, usually in mid-April. They feed mnly on Salmon and Steelhead fry during this time. We start by using floating lines for swinging flies and then switch to streamer fishing or light spin tackle with crankbts around late April through May.
Smallmouth Bass Fishing: We typically look for Smallmouth Bass from mid-May onwards, often starting in back waters above the dams on lakes within our area. Once water temperatures reach the high 50s to low 60s°F 13-16°C, fishing becomes extremely productive with topwater action in the mornings transitioning into streamer and crank bt use as daylight grows.
